Abstracts describing any rhododendron research project will be accepted, given the following qualifications: Topic related to anatomy, biogeography, breeding, chemistry, conservation, ecology, ethnobotany, evolution, genetics, horticulture, morphology, natural products, phenology, physiology, restoration, reproductive biology, or taxonomy. Abstract is <400 words, written for a public audience using non-technical language, describing the rationale, methods, results, conclusions, and significance for the broader rhododendron community. Abstract indicates the Region (Eastern North America, Western North America, Eastern Asia, Western Asia, or Europe), based on either geographic location of the research or the speaker’s expected geographic location at the time of the presentation.
Talks should be accessible to a general audience, assuming only a basic knowledge of plants, avoiding technical jargon and emphasizing the broader appeal and importance of the research. Posters are welcome to contain highly technical information aimed solely at an expert research audience.
Each Region will feature one Keynote Speaker, three Research Talks, nine poster Highlights Talks and unlimited posters in the Virtual Poster Viewing Room. Speakers will be invited to participate in Research Talks and/or Poster Highlights based on review of submitted abstracts. Everyone submitting a qualifying abstract (see criteria listed above) will be invited to upload a poster to the Virtual Poster Viewing Room.
Talks will take place via Zoom Webinar (link provided to registered attendees Feb. 2025). Talks will be recorded and uploaded to the Rhododendron Research Network YouTube Channel for later viewing. Talks uploaded to YouTube will be searchable and publicly accessible.
Virtual Poster Viewing will be hosted on Rhododendron Research Network’s Virtual Poster Viewing Room, where they will be searchable and publicly accessible. Poster viewers can ask questions and engage with poster presenters using comment features on the website.
Abstracts, presentations and posters should be in English to facilitate international participation. To facilitate local engagement in each region, authors are encouraged to provide regional-language versions of their talks and posters for uploading side-by-side with English versions to the Rhododendron Research Network YouTube Channel and Virtual Poster Viewing Room.
